James E. Shiers

James “Jim” E. Shiers, age 81, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Kearney. Private family graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Jim was born May 21, 1944, in Kearney to Elton and Irene (Peters) Shiers. He grew up in the Gibbon area and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1963. Jim worked as an electrician and farmed in the Gibbon/Kearney area until retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, of Kearney.

Jim enjoyed socializing with family and friends and was particularly drawn to children. He liked to tease and soon would have buddies. Jim liked to travel and go on snowmobiling excursions.

Jim is survived by his life partner, Kathy Olsufka; sons, John (Misti) and James (Robyn); his mother, Irene; grandchildren, Sierra, Layne, Vivian, and Fritz; great-granddaughter, Sienna; close friends, Heath Schake and family; sisters, Barb Jensen, of Lincoln, and Sandy (Joe) Bishop, of Worland Wyoming; brother, Larry (Sallee), of San Tan Valley, Arizona; and numerous family members and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father.
