Gangwish, age 97, of Kearney, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Broadwell Assisted Living. Private family interment will be held prior to the service at Riverside Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Gibbon Baptist Church with Pastor Taylor Shippy officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at the church.

Treva was born July 7, 1927, in Kearney to Delbert and Hazel (Pool) Lewis. She attended Kearney High School and later Kearney State Teachers College, where she earned her degree in 1947. Treva taught Home Economics in Wauneta and Gibbon before marrying Wendell J. Gangwish on June 26, 1949, at the Gibbon Baptist Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Gibbon and then on the family farm near Wood River.

Treva was a longtime member of the Gibbon Baptist Church, the Nebraska Farm Bureau, and served on the Farm Bureau State Board, Nebraska Baptist Women, Hall County Home Economics Club, and the board of directors for the Children’s Village in Grand Island. She was a charter member of the Family, Youth, and Community Partners, working to support public policy for programs offered through the University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension and the College of Education and Human Sciences. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, bird watching, traveling, taking good road trips, and was an avid collector of recipes.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rod (Jane) Gangwish, of Shelton, Arlen (Melanie) Gangwish, of Shelton, Kristy (Mike) Shelley, of Livingston, Texas, and Janell (Clark) Papke, of Courtland; 16 grandchildren; 34 greatgrandchildren; brother-in-law, Carl Gangwish, Jr., of Kearney; sister-in-law, Loree Elliott, of Kearney; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Treva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendell J. Gangwish; her brother, Dwayne (Pat) Lewis; her sister, Donna (C.O.) VanCamp; in-laws, Carl Sr., and Carrie Gangwish; and many brothersin- law and sisters-in-law.
