Douglas Hoschouer

Douglas Glen Hoschouer, age 79, of McCook, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with COPD.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at the Cornerstone Fellowship, 402 W. 5th St., Mc-Cook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Cornerstone Fellowship Church of McCook.

Doug was born January 27, 1946, to Julian, Sr., and Lois Hoschouer. He grew up on a farm outside Wellfleet with his siblings, Julian, Jr., and Phyllis. After graduating from Hayes City High School, he earned a degree from Chadron State College and began his career teaching in Benkelman. There he met Charlene Ketler, and the two were married in 1969. They raised their daughter, Nancy, and shared a life filled with adventure, antique hunting, and newspaper publishing.

Together, Doug and Charlene restored Willa Cather’s “Second Home” in Red Cloud and ran it as a treasured bed and breakfast. After Charlene’s passing in 2014, Doug became active with the Alzheimer’s Association, supporting other caregivers.

He later reunited with college sweetheart Sharon Huegel, and in 2018 they joined their families in a consecrated union. Doug cherished his role as “bonus” grandparent and was deeply loved by his blended family.

He is survived by his daughter Nancy (Mark) Krejci, mate Sharon Huegel, siblings, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Charlene.
