Myrtle M. Halkyard

Myrtle M. Halkyard, age 93, of Gibbon, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2025, at Faith United Church in Gibbon. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today, Thursday, January 2, at the church.

Myrtle was born July 17, 1931, in Fremont to Oris C. and Ruby (Burgess) McMahan. She was raised near Litchfield and was a 1949 graduate of Litchfield High School. Following her graduation, Myrtle worked at the Midway Hotel in Kearney. On December 15, 1952, Myrtle was united in marriage to Donald Halkyard in Litchfield. To this union four children were blessed. The couple raised their family in Gibbon where they farmed for many years.

Myrtle was a member of Faith United Church in Gibbon and recently celebrated 75 years in the Methodist Church. She was also a past Den Mother, a longtime member of the Gibbon American Legion Auxiliary and the Gabby Sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, David “Rusty” Halkyard and wife, Mary, of Gibbon, and Johnny Halkyard and wife, Karen, of Gibbon; daughters, Debbie Chaney and husband, Scott, of Kearney, and Dee Krolikowski and husband, Duane, of Gibbon; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several extended family and friends.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Halkyard; brother, Jess McMahan; and sister, Patricia McMahan.
