David Johnson
David Johnson, age 66, of Gibbon, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at UNMC in Omaha.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Gibbon Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon.

David was born November 10, 1957, to Everett E. and Norma J. (Benge) Johnson in Kearney. He was raised in Gibbon and graduated from Gibbon High School in 1976.
He worked at the Haymill with his dad for several years.
At the age of 33 he lost his eyesight. He later operated D and E Vending and DJ Vending, providing snacks to the interstate rest stops.
In his younger years, David enjoyed umpiring and coaching baseball. He was president of the Visually Impaired Peer Support Group and the Blind VendersAssociation. He was a member of the Gibbon Housing Committee, Gibbon/Shelton Community Center Board, and the Gibbon Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and board member. David started “Gibbon Scare on the Square” and was a past member of the Jaycees.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Michael (Amanda) Johnson, of Gibbon, and Paige (Dustin) Schmidt, of Shelton; grandchildren, Hazyl and Jeremiah Johnson, and Layla, Lillyan and Luna Schmidt; siblings, Carla Smallcomb, Doug Johnson, and Judy (Wes) Miller, all of Gibbon, Kristi (David) Martensen, of Leigh, and Bob (Crystal) Johnson, of Minden; as well as several nieces, nephews, greatnieces, great-nephews and extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Brenda Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jim Smallcomb.
