Shelton residents to vote on swimming pool bonds on May 14

When Shelton voters go to the polls on Tuesday, May 14, among the choices they will make is whether or not to allow the village to borrow money for the construction of a new community swimming pool. The current pool is over 65 years old and is showing its age. Planning and fundraising efforts have been on-going for some time by the village and others to construct a new pool for the community.

GVFD responds to fire at Gibbon Packing Sunday

The Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire call at Gibbon Packing on the east edge of Gibbon around 8:38 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, battling the fire in the rendering area of the plant, according to Gibbon Fire Chief Rick Brown. He said that the department, aided by the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department and a ladder truck from the Kearney Fire Department, were on scene until around 2:00 a.m. Brown complimented the departments who helped with the fire by saying, “We have a really good mutual aid agreement. We all work together well and did a good job.”

Clipper Country non-profits to take part in Go Big GIVE May 2

Six Clipper Country non-profits will participate in the Thursday, May 2, Go Big GIVE 24-hour, online event organized by the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation and Heartland United Way to grow philanthropy in Hall, Hamilton, Howard and Merrick counties. Match Pool Funds and prize money are available to amplify charitable donations. Donations can be made online at www.gobiggive.org.
