S/G Legion Seniors fall in tourney final

Playing in the Area Six Seniors tournament on their home field Tuesday, July 24, Shelton/Gibbon had to get past Alma in back-to-back games, because of the double elimination format, to advance to the state tournament. The quest ended in the first game that went Alma’s way by the score of 5-3. S/G had earned a slot in that final by virtue of a 13-3 mercy-rule blasting of Ord on the night before. Because of the 10-run difference, that game went just five innings.

The drubbing of Ord began in a quiet fashion since both teams went scoreless through the first two innings. Ord tallied one in their half of the third, and S/G answered with two in the same frame. Ord went scoreless again in the fourth only to see S/G plate five, making the score 7-1 as the final inning opened.
