Lady Eagles reign as LPC champs

Wood River’s Lady Eagle basketballers went into the LouPlatte Conference tournament as the top seed and proved the merit of that by winning their way to the championship trophy in a game at Central City Saturday, February 2. A Wood River girls teams last played for a championship 25 years ago and lost the game, so it is not clearly known how long it has been since a Wood River team has been a champion.

The trek toward the title began in Wood River Tuesday, January 29, as the Lady Eagles hosted Centura in a first-round game. Wood River side-stepped their neighbors to the north with a 49-20 win. Centura’s woes that took place in the one-point second half worked to Wood River’s favor as the Eagles took a 28-19 lead into the half-time. The 21-1 second half held no doubt about the outcome.
