Terry P. Gallagher

Terry P. Gallagher, age 76, of Cairo, died Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his home in Cairo. Memorial service was held Thursday August 30, at Cairo United Methodist Church with the Reverend Cathryn Love officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Cairo Quick Response Team (QRT) and the Fire Department for scholarship use. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Gallagher was born March 6, 1942, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the son of John “Jack” and Velda (Kemper) Gallagher. He grew up in O’Neill where he received his education, graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School with the class of 1961. He entered the United States Air Force in August 7, 1961, serving during Vietnam and was honorably discharged December 23,1964. He was united in marriage to Rita Pease, January 15, 1971, in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Cairo where he was employed at Baasch and Sons Welding, of Cairo, as a welder, retiring in 1995. He also was a part-time EMS instructor at Central Community College in Grand Island for 33 years. He was a member of Cairo Fire Department, Quick Response Team, Emergency Management Director for Cairo Fire District, Commander of the American Legion Post #333, NEMSA, Nebraska Instructor Society, Nebraska Advanced Care Providers, NEMSA EMS Winter Conference, National Association for EMT'S, State EMS Instructor, Hall County LEPC. Also a former board member for Centura Public Schools. He enjoyed fishing, boating, reading, traveling, storm spotting, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping others. Terry loved having coffee in the mornings while visiting with fellow members of the community. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rita Gallagher, of Cairo; son, Todd M. Gallagher, of Burwell; daughter and son-inlaw, Tammy and Tom Work, of Grand Island; daughterin- law, Patty Pedroza, of Hastings; two grandsons, Alex and Max Gallagher, both of Hastings; two granddaughters, Avery R. Work and Raven G. Work, of Grand Island; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lynn and Liz Gallagher, of Scottsdale, Arizona, and David and Linda Winkler, of Burwell; two sisters-in-law, Millie Winkler, of Broken Bow, and Judy Winkler, of Lincoln; two sisters and brothers-inlaw, Rita and Ray Jenkins, of Hesperia, California, and Paula and Keith Burns, of Gretna; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Velda Gallagher; step-father, George Winkler; son, Ken Gallagher; brothers, Duane and Gene Winkler; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Rick Zoucha; and sisterin- law and spouse, Joan and LeRoy Faith
