Garry Dean Thomas, age 78, of rural Shelton, died Saturday March 2, 2019, at Wedgewood Care Facility in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Shelton United Methodist Church with Pastor Carla Gunn officiating. Visitation will be begin one hour prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Shelton Emergency Services, First Responders. Garry was born on August 27, 1940, in Kearney to Belva and Ilah “Marie” (Maurer) Thomas. He grew up in rural Gibbon and received his education at Gibbon High School. Later he joined the U.S. Air Force on January 24, 1961, and served during a time of innovation. He was honorably discharged on January 22, 1965. On August 9, 1968, Garry was united in marriage to Beverly (Burmood) in Julesburg, Colorado. During their 50 year marriage they have always lived on a farm near Shelton. Garry’s work experience was wide and varied both in Nebraska and Colorado. His passions always remained flying small aircraft and deer hunting. He spent many hours in nature near the Platte River. He is survived by his wife, Beverly J. Thomas, of Shelton; son, Robert Thomas, also of Shelton; daughter, Kathy Thomas (Gary) Willhite, of Holmen, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Hailey, Katelynn, and Zachariah Willhite; sisters, Bonnie Schurer, of Wood River, Sharon (Larry) Neal, of North Platte, and Cheryl (Terry) Wortman, of Sopulpa, Oklahoma. Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Belva and Marie; and three brothers, Jack, Maynard, and Marland.
