Thirty-six seniors became Wood River Rural High School graduates at commencement ceremonies held on Sunday, May 20, for the Class of 2018.

The Gibbon Board of Education talked REAP funds and budget development at its regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 14.

The 106th Shelton Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 26, at the Shelton High School. Social hour will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the banquet at 6:00 p.m.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 28, the Clipper office in Shelton will be closed.

At the state high school track meet at Omaha Burke High’s stadium Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19 six girls and Ty Swanson competed for Wood River.

At the state championship track meet at Omaha’s Burke High stadium Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, Kathleen Juhl and Nadia Pinon ran with the Shelton colors.

Ty Swanson’s win in the 800 at the district track meet at Ord Thursday, May 10, led the way of the Eagle scoring in the meet. The win automatically puts him in the state meet.


Kindergarten through sixth grade students at Gibbon Elementary presented a matinee and regular performance of Disney Through the Decades for family and friends on Thursday, May 17, at the school.

Randall M. Hartmann, age 67, of Grand Island, died Friday, May 11, 2018, of natural causes.

Mardell “Mardy” Schley, age 76, of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at her home after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the day before. Cremation was chosen.

Pauline Mazankowski, age 95, of Wood River, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.
