Micaela T. Chavez

Micaela T. Chavez, age 83, of Shelton, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. Memorial services were held Friday, December 22, 2023, at O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Inurnment followed at Shelton Cemetery.

Micaela was born July 27, 1940, in Pearsall, Texas, to Pedro and Rosa (Vasquez) Torres. She spent her youth in Texas before moving to Hershey in 1962. The family then moved to Doniphan in 1968 and to Shelton in 1969 where she has resided ever since. On October 27, 1956, Micaela was united in marriage to Juan Chavez in Pearsall, Texas. Micaela was a long-time employee of Eaton Corporation and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and taking care of her many grandchildren. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Juan Chavez, Jr. and wife Beverly, of Kearney, Alfredo Chavez, of Kearney, Patricia Lanini and husband Frank, of Seneca, South Carolina, Jose “Joe” Chavez and wife Serena, of Shelton, Michael Chavez, of Shelton, and Pauline Chavez, of Shelton; several grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Guadalupe Garcia, of Kearney, Pauline Ayala, of Bensenville, Illinois, Lidia (Conrad) Tonsul, of Skokie, Illinois, Joe Torres, of Baton Rouge, Florida, Rosario (Jim) Baxter, of Pleasanton, Rosalinda (Alton) Mumm, of Waterloo, Margarita (Rick) Beatty, of Kearney, Antonio (Beth) Torres, of Pensacola, Florida, and Armando Torres, of Gillette, Wyoming; as well as many nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
