He was born on August 12, 1944, to Clyde and Grace Canady in Gibbon. He had two older sisters, Claudine Kappius and Irene Cope. He grew up in Gibbon and graduated from high school in 1962. Don married Pam Carter in 1963. To their union, two sons were born, Tim and Mark.

Don earned his undergraduate music degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln and earned his master’s degree from Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas. Don taught choral music at both the high school and college level before God called him into the ministry. He attended St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated in 1984. His first congregation was in Hamburg, Iowa, followed by churches in North Bend, Fairbury, Minden, Edgar, and Steel City. He also served as an interim pastor at First Presbyterian in Hastings.

Don was deeply devoted to Pam and incredibly proud of his family, he never missed an opportunity to share with others about what his children and grandchildren were doing. He was a beloved pastor, mentor, and friend to many, and he will be missed by all who loved him and were loved by him.

Survivors are his wife, Pam; and sons, spouses, and families, Tim and Teresa and their daughters, Lauren, Grace, Shannon and Olivia Canady, and Mark and Theresa and their daughters, Nicole, Hannah, Madison and Isabel Canady along with great-granddaughter, Haven Canady.

Don’s parents preceded him in death as did brothers-inlaw, Bob Kappius and Monty Cope; and sister-in-law, Carolee Yockey.
