Shelton vs Axtell homecoming football game canceled due to illness

The homecoming football game between the Shelton Bulldogs and Axtell Wildcats has been canceled due to illness at Axtell High School. All homecoming activities in the afternoon will be held as planned. The homecoming king and queen will be crowned at 7:00 p.m. in the gym and the homecoming dance will be held from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.

Area schools hold homecoming parades, pep rallies Friday

Students and staff at Gibbon and Wood River High Schools will hold homecoming pep rallies, football games and king and queen crownings this Friday, September 30..

Gibbon High will host Sandy Creek in their homecoming football game at 7:00 p.m. with crowning of the homecoming king and queen after the game. The homecoming dance will be held at the school on Saturday, October 1.


Wood River High School will hold a pep rally on Friday beginning at 2:30 p.m. from the school to the fire hall, down Green Street to East Street and through the Good Samaritan parking lot to pick up the elementary students at 10th Street.The parade will end in front of Peters Hardware for a pep rally. The Eagles host Southern Valley for the homecoming football game at 7:00 p.m. with homecoming king and queen crowned after the game. The homecoming dance will be held after the football game until 11:30 p.m.



Wood River Band wins top honors at UNK Band Day

The Wood River Band won first place in Class C at the UNK Band Day on September 17. Read more in this week's Wood River Sunbeam.

Shelton Annual Fireworks Show Still Accepting Donations

The 2015 Shelton Fireworks Show proved be another “Small Town Spectacular” that rivals any big town blowout! The fireworks show was viewed by spectators from surrounding communities from near and far. Donations are still being accepted at area businesses as well as at the banks in Shelton, Gibbon, and Wood River. Donations can be mailed to: “Shelton Fireworks Fund” at PO Box 639, Shelton NE 68876. A “standard” contribution is $25, but any amount is appreciated. Thanks to all for contributing and making this a long standing tradition. Each year is a new year that creates a memory of a lifetime for our youth. Once this year’s goal is met, the remainder of the funds will go toward the 2015 show.
