Area cagers to play in conference tournaments

Boys and girls basketball teams from Shelton, Gibbon and Wood River will play in their respective conference tournaments beginning this Saturday, January 31.

The Shelton Lady Bulldogs play at Franklin in the first round of the Twin Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. The winner advances to play on Tuesday, February 3, at a time and place that is to be determined. Semi-final games will be played on Kenesaw on Friday, February 6, with the finals to be played in Kenesaw on Saturday, February 7.

The Shelton boys basketball team will travel to Deshler on Monday, February 2, in their TVC opener at 7:00 p.m. TVC Tournament semi-finals will be played at Kenesaw on Friday, February 5. Finals are set for Saturday, February 7, at Kenesaw.

The Gibbon Lady Buffaloes will be the number ten seed in the LouPlatte Conference Tournament bunny bracket  on Monday, February 2. Gibbon faces seventh seeded Arcadia-Loup City (7-9) at Loup City at 6:15. The winner advances to play second seed Centura in Centura the following day at 7:00 p.m.
The conference semi-finals will be played at Adams Central on Saturday, February 7, at 6:00 p.m.. The consolation game is set for the same day and site and will be played at 6:00 p.m. also.

The Gibbon Buffaloes are the seventh seed in the LouPlatte Conference Tournament and host tenth seed, 3-12 St. Paul, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2. The winner will go on to play the number two seed Wood River Eagles (13-3) on their home court the following day at 7:00 p.m.
The winner of Tuesday night’s game will advance to play either Ord or Doniphan/Trumbull on Thursday, February 5, at 8:00 p.m. at Adams Central. The conference championship and consolation games are set for 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7. Those games will also be played at Adams Central.

The Wood River Lady Eagles are the number eight seed in the LouPlatte Conference Tournemant and are paired against ninth seeded Doniphan/Trumbull in Wood River on Monday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. The winner goes to Kearney Catholic to play the number one seeded Lady Stars on Tuesday, February 3, at 7:00 p.m. The winner advances to play in the semi-finals at Adams Central on Friday, February 6, at 6:15.The loser plays in the consolation game at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the 7th at Adams Central. The championship is likewise played at Adams Central on the 7th at 7:00 p.m.

Wood River's boys enter the LPC Tournament as the number two seed and will play at home for their first LPC Tournament game against either Gibbon or St. Paul on Tuesday, February 3.An Eagle win means a game at Adams Central against either Ord or Doniphan/Trumbull on Thursday, February 5, at 8:00 p.m. Thursday's losers play on Saturday, the 7th at Adams Central in the consolation game at 4:00 p.m. Thursday's winners play for the LPC championship that day at Adams Central also at 4:00 p.m.

Shelton Annual Fireworks Show Still Accepting Donations

The 2014 Shelton Fireworks Show proved be another “Small Town Spectacular” that rivals any big town blowout! The fireworks show was viewed by spectators from surrounding communities from near and far. Donations are still being accepted at area businesses as well as at the banks in Shelton, Gibbon, and Wood River. Donations can be mailed to: “Shelton Fireworks Fund” at PO Box 639, Shelton NE 68876. A “standard” contribution is $25, but any amount is appreciated. Thanks to all for contributing and making this a long standing tradition. Each year is a new year that creates a memory of a lifetime for our youth. Once this year’s goal is met, the remainder of the funds will go toward the 2015 show.
