Gibbon boys golfers claim Class C state championship

The Gibbon boys golf team conquered the course and opposition at the 2013 Class C state golf championship at Highland Golf Course in Lincoln. The Buffaloes emerged as state champions by narrowly defeating Hastings St. Cecilia by one stroke, as they finished with a team score of 651. Rylee Reinertson fell one stroke short of an individual championship as he logged a 144 in the two-day event. Ryan Milks tied a St. Cecilia player for sixth place with a score of 154, followed by Bennett Steele with his 170, Brett Bendfeldt with a 183 and Korbin Hynes, who finished the state meet with a score of 208. Triplet calves born at Meyer farm near Shelton
Triplet calves were born on the night of May 10 at the Arlen Meyer farm near Shelton, with all three surviving! According to a similar story reported at yourtownnews.ca, the odds of having live triplet calves is only one in about 105,000.

Gibbon City Council approves bonds for new pool

The Gibbon City Council approved bonds for the new swimming pool at its regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 20. Construction on the new pool is underway just west of the existing facility. See more on this story in the May 23 issue of the Gibbon Reporter.

 

Wood River Eagles Sports Capsule

Alexis Burghardt, Jake Skeen and Jessica Rauert competed at the state meet in Omaha on Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18. Read how these athletes fared in the May 23 issue of the Wood River Sunbeam.

Shelton Bulldog Sports Capsule

The Shelton boys and girls track teams competed at the D-7 district meet in Loup City on Wednesday, May 8. The boys claimed the team title with a score of 126, sending the team to the state meet this weekend and the girls team finished the day in sixth place and sending three athletes to the state meet. Bulldog thinclads making the trip to Omaha are Clayton Stoppkotte, Dave Mueller, Elmer Montanez, Dailim Ramos, Darrek Ellis, Jesus Marquez, David Jimenez, Luke Glenn, Corbin Lehn, Dakota Kiger, Shelby Terry, Joey Terry and Triston Stoppkotte. Results from the state meet will appear in the May 23 issues of the Shelton Clipper. More information on the state meet can be found at www.nsahome.org.

Gibbon Buffalo Sports Capsule

Top ten finishes by Rylee Reinertson, Ryan Milks and Bennett Steele lifted the Gibbon boys golf team not only to the C-4 District crown on Tuesday, May 14, but earned themselves and the team a trip to the state meet next week in Lincoln.The Buffaloes finished the district meet with a score of 317 with Ord in a distant second place with a score of 317. Results from the meet will appear in the May 23 issue of the Gibbon Reporter. The state meet will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 and 22, at the Highlands Country Club in Lincoln. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. each day. More information on the state meet can be found at www.nsahome.org.

Shelton Annual Fireworks Show Still Accepting Donations

The 2012 Shelton Fireworks Show proved be another “Small Town Spectacular” that rivals any big town blowout! The fireworks show was viewed by spectators from surrounding communities from near and far. Donations are still being accepted at area businesses as well as at the banks in Shelton, Gibbon, and Wood River. Donations can be mailed to: “Shelton Fireworks Fund” at PO Box 639, Shelton NE 68876. A “standard” contribution is $25, but any amount is appreciated. Thanks to all for contributing and making this a long standing tradition. Each year is a new year that creates a memory of a lifetime for our youth. Once this year’s goal is met, the remainder of the funds will go toward the 2013 show.
